It should come as no surprise to anyone that Minecraft is still dominating. There's just something about that blocky world of possibilities that taps into a creative part of our brains that's just irresistible.

The latest Minecraft news comes from the Twitter page of developer Jens Bergensten, who stated that the PC version of the game has now sold over 9 million copies. Bergensten also noted that the Pocket Edition, which has only been out for a couple of months, has already reached 7.3 million copies.

Bergensten's right. When you combine the Xbox 360 sales, which are now are more than 5 million copies, the total franchise sales is now around 20 million. That's just a huge amount. It's refreshing to see how massively successful this game has turned out to be.

Big studios take note - you don't need luscious 3D environments rendered to reality-like levels of detail in order to sell your games. The Minecraft Rule states: it's all about the gameplay!
