Tell those Skylanders monsters to move over, because TT Games' Lego Dimensions is bringing its brick-based franchises to the toys-to-life market, including Back to the Future, The Lord of the Rings and DC Comics all in one epic game.

TT Games, Lego and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have announced Lego Dimensions, which is going to be a major contender in the current toys-to-life war going on between the Skylanders, amiibo and Disney Infinity franchises. Fortunately, Lego is going full throttle with this game, and will be incorporating many of its brick-based franchises. The company has already announced that Lego Dimensions will bridge together the following franchises: DC Comics, The Lord of the Rings, The Lego Movie, The Wizard of Oz, Lego Ninjago, Back to the Future (this is heavy), and many more.

As with most other toys-to-life games, you'll be able to introduce your physical figures into your game with a scanner-like mechanism, the Lego Toy Pad in this case, which will be introduced with the Starter Pack bundles. There will be additional expansion packs coming in the future as well, which include collectible Level Packs, Team Packs and Fun Packs, each adding all kinds of characters, gadgets, tools, weapons, vehicles and in-game content. TT Games mentioned that there will be a Back to the Future Level Pack which includes a Marty McFly minifig. We've definitely got our eyes on the DC Fun Packs that have Wonder Woman and Cyborg as well as The Lord of the Rings Fun Packs with Gollum, Gimli and Legolas.

“When kids play with LEGO bricks, they build beyond the singular brands, intermixing all of their favourite characters and universes, and we have come up with a way for players to experience that in games,” said Jon Burton, Founder and Creative Director at TT Games. “Now for the first time in a videogame, LEGO fans can play in the virtual world and in the real world – combining everything without restrictions. Imagine putting LEGO Gollum from The Lord of the Rings behind the wheel of the LEGO Delorean in New Ninjago City - the creative play is endless.”

Lego Dimensions will be launching on Sept. 27 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and the Wii U. There will be a Lego Dimensions Starter Pack bundle, which will include the game itself, a Lego Toy Pad (to transport your minifigures and objects into the game), bricks to build the Lego Gateway atop the Toy Pad and three minifigures. These figures include Lego Batman, Lego Gandalf and Wyldstyle (from The Lego Movie). Also included with the Starter Pack will be a mini-Batmobile. These minifigures and mini-vehicles can be scanned through the Lego Toy Pad and enter your game. The Starter Pack bundle, regardless of console, has a price of $99.
