Scott Cawthon hit us with another jumpscare by releasing Five Nights at Freddy's 4 two weeks early. That's right — Freddy, Chica, Bonnie and Foxy are in the house.

First, Scott Cawthon makes the first three Five Nights at Freddy's games by himself with just a few months of development time for each one. Despite the third game intending to be the last of the bunch, Cawthon came back by unveiling a fourth Five Nights at Freddy's game with an intended Halloween 2015 release date, offering much more breathing room than for himself than his previous titles. Just last week, Cawthon surprised us by saying that Five Nights at Freddy's 4 will launch in August, with a trailer coming out the following week. He then released the trailer on a whim a few hours after the announcement. Despite changing the game's release date to Aug. 8, Cawthon hit us with another surprise by releasing Five Nights at Freddy's 4 today on Steam.

Here's the synopsis of Five Night's at Freddy's 4, according to its Steam listing:

This time, the terror has followed you home.

In this last chapter of the Five Nights at Freddy's original story, you must once again defend yourself against Freddy Fazbear, Chica, Bonnie, Foxy, and even worse things that lurk in the shadows. Playing as a child whose role is yet unknown, you must safeguard yourself until 6am by watching the doors, as well as warding off unwanted creatures that may venture into your closet or onto the bed behind you.

You have only a flashlight to protect yourself. It will scare away things that may be creeping at the far end of the hallways, but be careful, and listen. If something has crept too close, then shining lights in its eyes will be your end.

Five Nights at Freddy's 4 is now available for $7.99 on Steam. Make sure you play it the ballsy, Arcade Sushi way: by yourself, in the dark, headphones on, and have the volume cranked.
