Fallout 4’s Dogmeat Is Based on a Real Life Dog
Say hello to River, who will be starring in Fallout 4 as your trusty canine companion, Dogmeat. Now, shake hands, roll over, and fetch that Nuka Cola.
Bethesda has released a behind the scenes video showcasing what it takes to make Fallout 4 come to life. This time, Bethesda focuses on the motion capture and voice-over work that was used to make Dogmeat, or would that be bark-over work? Nevertheless, watch Bethesda's camera and audio crew follow around the adorable German Shepard, River, as this special canine is recorded doing all kinds of activities out in the open. We get to see Bethesda trying to get this specially-trained pooch to do various tricks and actions. Listen to the cameraman explain how happy he is just to get River to stand still and look around in order to get Dogmeat's idle animations without any major activities going on.
The video shows off a variety of dog actions being filmed and their corresponding animations in the Beantown Wasteland. The cameraman is seen filming River fetch a stick from a lake. The same animation could be seen where Dogmeat fetched a tool out of a garage for the Wanderer. Bethesda's audio team followed the canine all over the place to get a variety of authentic German Shepard sounds to go along with all of these actions.
Fallout 4 will launch on Nov. 10 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Pre-ordering the Xbox One version of the game will unlock a free copy of Fallout 3 via backwards compatibility.
