Evolution Studios has formally unveiled the release date and new director of its upcoming title that seeks to revolutionize online racing.

SCE Worldwide Studios president Shu Yoshida has announced DriveClub's Oct. 7 release date on the PlayStation Blog. Evolution Studios has also released a trailer to accompany the announcement of DriveClub's release date. In addition to this long-awaited news, Yoshida announced who has been serving as the game's director after its original one left the company earlier this year. Yoshida claims that the DriveClub may not have met its original release date, but it is because of its attempt to redefine the racing genre, especially in terms of social interaction.

We're really excited to see some new, in-game footage of DriveClub and to finally get a release date after numerous setbacks have hit Evolution Studios throughout the past year. In particular, DriveClub's original game director, Col Rodgers, left the studio this past February just before Sony hit the studio with multiple layoffs less than a month later. Luckily, Paul "Rushy" Rustchynsky has taken charge of DriveClub after Rodgers' departure. Rustchynsky is mostly known for design work on various Evolution Studios racing titles and as the game director of MotorStorm RC.

Be prepared to race with your team as DriveClub will debut on Oct. 7 exclusively on PlayStation 4.
