Few games ever achieve the resounding success of Disney Infinity; of course, few games have the backing of one of the largest multimedia companies in the world, companies who own legendary properties from Mickey Mouse to Marvel superheroes and everything Star Wars. With Disney Infinity 2.0 arriving soon, Disney's giving its existing playerbase as many upgrade options as possible, starting with the Toy Box edition.

In addition to releasing the standard game bundles and figures, a digital download of the Toy Box 2.0 will also be made available. While the full game arrives on Sept. 23, you can download just the Toy Box starting on Nov. 4. It will be available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Wii U for $29.99, though it will be available for just $19.99 on PSN and the eShop for a limited time at launch.

"We’re launching this digital option on November 4 because that’s when all 2.0 Edition Play Sets will be available for individual purchase," said John Vignocchi, Executive Producer Disney Infinity on Tumblr. "It’s also when the Disney Originals series becomes available, significantly expanding the 2.0 character roster, so we believe this is the best timing for the a la carte consumer."

As a special bonus, consumers in North America will be able to get Stitch's Tropical Forest and Brave Forest Siege Game Discs for free if they purchased a digital download of the Toy Box. More details on that promotion will be announced at a later date, but there are plenty of discs to occupy players in the meantime.

So, what does this mean? Essentially, if you're looking to upgrade to Disney Infinity 2.0, but already own a chunk of DI stuff, you don't have to break the bank to upgrade. Just snag the Toy Box digital download (and maybe Groot while you're at it) and you're ready to roll with everything you already have; all of your original purchases are forward-compatible, so you can enjoy the numerous combat upgrades and extra abilities, costumes, etc., of Infinity 2.0.

If you're just getting into Disney Infinity for the first time, however, you're probably better off just buying a starter pack, as they come with a pile of characters, power discs, toy box parts, and more, at a much better price than picking them up individually. Or you could just do the sensible thing and run, run while you can! Do it before this beast sucks up all of your money with its infinite fun! Spider-Man, Gravity Falls, The Muppets, The Avengers... they're all here, and they're all expensive— save yourself!
