Not content to merely jazz up the graphics, Capcom's upcoming rerelease of Devil May Cry 4 comes bearing new content, including new game modes, costumes, and characters.

Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition has the same lightning-fast action perfection of the original release, but this time you're not just limited to playing as series protagonist Dante and newbie Nero — veterans Trish, Lady and Vergil will all be playable ass-kickers. Lady fights with the explosive armaments we saw her wielding in Devil May Cry 3, Trish blasts foes with demonic lightning a la her Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 appearance and Vergil's got all of the sword-summoning, rapid slashing we've come to expect from Dante's power-hungry twin brother. It's not clear how, exactly, these new characters will fit into the story mode, but they integrate easily into the existing Bloody Palace survival mode and the new Legendary Dark Knight mode, which is a battle against huge hordes of enemies, forcing players to unleash their most stylish combos if they hope to survive. We hope actual new story content is added to explain their additions to the game instead of just having them as mere bonus features.

DMC4SE also bumps the last-gen title up to the 1080p goodness of this console generation (while still keeping Devil May Cry 4's famously smooth 60 FPS). There will also new costumes galore, though Capcom has yet to announce what exactly they are. Rereleasing a game that's not even a decade old feels like an odd move, but the new characters and modes are a welcome offering for the long-neglected Devil May Cry fanbase.

Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition arrives in summer 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
