The Borderlands team at Gearbox Software released their E3 2015 trailer for the first-person shooter/MOBA hybrid, Battleborn, a little bit early.

Gearbox Software and 2K may have jumped the gun on releasing the E3 trailer for Battleborn, but we don't mind. You'll get to play as one of 25 unique heroes, each with their own style of combat. Battleborn features first-person gameplay with up to 10 players online and some MOBA-inspired elements thrown into the mix. In the game's Story Mode, you can fight alone or cooperatively to save the last star in the universe. When playing Battleborn's competitive multiplayer, you'll participate in epic 5v5 matches with gameplay modes such as Incursion, Meltdown and Devastation. Regardless of what you're playing, you'll continue to gain EXP, which will help you level up your heroes.

Here's Gearbox's breakdown of the three multiplayer modes:

  • Incursion: Teams of heroes defend their base from waves of AI-controlled minions while working together, alongside their own minions, to destroy their opponents’ base;
  • Devastation: Teams of heroes face off in a fast-paced death match and must capture and hold objectives on the map to win;
  • Meltdown: Teams of heroes protect their minions as they march to their death at the center of the map. Points are scored for minions who throw themselves into the incinerator, and the team with the most points wins.

The 25 playable heroes of Battleborn use the Helix system as a basis of progression, which is kind of like a talent tree, with a max level of 10. You'll continue to always gain experience points, regardless if you're playing Story Mode or one multiplayer. You'll be able to level up both your Characters' Ranks and your own Command Rank. Command Ranks are basically your player profile, which you can earn rare badges and titles to make you look even more like a badass.

Battleborn will launch this Winter for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
