Alfred Takes a Break From Cleaning the Batcave to Clean Up Gotham’s Streets in Arkham Knight Mod
[Slight Story Spoilers in the Video, So Watcher Beware]
None of Batman's closest friends and family have been with him nearly as long as dutiful butler Alfred Pennyworth. While the character has seen some action in the comics and animated ventures of the Dark Knight, the video game versions of the loyal servant have largely been portrayed as just that. Thankfully, one devoted Pennyworth fan set forth to buck that trend, and give the over-qualified major-domo a chance to shine.
Though the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight is still rather borked, the time without a properly functioning game has given PC players a chance to fool around with the game's files. After learning how to insert non-playable characters into the fold, Batman Arkham Videos (via Polygon) was able to get Alfred himself in place of Bruce Wayne for much of Arkham Knight's action. "I've tried to edit some files in Batman: Arkham Knight and finally managed to play as Alfred Pennyworth," said the YouTube description. "His moveset is very limited, he cannot perform counter-attacks, environmental takedowns or dual takedowns, but he can still kick plenty of ass."
It's quite a sight to see the old steward flipping around like he's just as spry as Robin or Nightwing. The slow motion takedowns used are particularly humorous, as we expect this kind of flexibility and movement from the Dark Knight himself, but seeing many of these same animations attributed to Alfred will put a smile on your face. It's almost as funny as Kevin Conroy's voice coming from his aged assistant during some cutscenes with any number of the game's guest stars.
There's still been no official word from Rocksteady on when to expect any actual fixes for the computer port of Arkham Knight if you already bought it, so maybe this will help you pass the time while you wait. It's not quite the same as enjoying the game as it was meant to be played, but it might even be a bit more enjoyable if you're in the right mindset.
