Deadpool's twisted sense of humor is a huge reason for his popularity, but there is nothing funny regarding today's news of Activision's decision to lay off 40 full-time employees at High Moon Studios. Along with its anticipated Deadpool title, High Moon Studios also developed the Transformers video games.

"Activision Publishing consistently works to align its costs with its revenues - this is an ongoing process," said Activision in a statement. "With the completion of development on Deadpool, we are taking a reduction in staff and our development talent against our slate. Approximately, 40 full-time employees will be impacted globally. We are offering those employees who are impacted outplacement counseling services."

Late in the day, High Moon Studios tweeted their thoughts on the layoffs and added, "Thank you our beloved fans for all the well wishes. We lost some uber talented people. Hire them! Deadpool will be a great game."

Deadpool comes out on the Wii U, PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 this summer.
