In this modern age of gaming, fewer and fewer games are getting released as console exclusive, which is why it was so surprising that Street Fighter V is going to be a PlayStation 4/PC exclusive. Xbox fans can rest easy, though, as Xbox Big Boss Phil Spencer assured them there would be plenty of Xbox content to make up for the loss of such a massive franchise.

In a series of tweets (collected by MCV), Spencer weighed in on the Street Fighter V reveal, and Sony's press conference: “Business deals happen. We won't do all of them. When we have a 1st party franchise in a genre [such as Killer Instinct] I'd rather invest in ours."

“I'd love it if Xbox fans could play all the games, but business just makes some deals happen," he added. "It's all part of competition. Love the idea of game franchise bartering, I'll work on making amends for Street Fighter. I appreciate the competition, they do good work. I just focus on us and I think that makes us better.”

Overall, Spencer agreed with the general consensus about PSX, stating, "[It was] A nice event, good way for Sony to celebrate 20 years. I watched, it was well done." He then went on to say, "I feel good about 2015 for Xbox.”

With Xbox getting Rise of the Tomb Raider ahead of PlayStation, this move feels like a retaliatory coup. Especially when you consider Street Fighter V will never be on another console... in its current iteration. Just how Microsoft will be making up for the loss among fight fans remains to be seen, but we're curious to see how the future will unfold for the rival consoles.
