Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat answered a few questions about an always on console. Hix answers were more measured and thoughtful than the usual discourse about being always online.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Mallat fielded a few questions concerning the always on brouhaha that has been making its way around the internet. He mentions that it is all up to Sony and Microsoft and gave us the usual comment about being always online with our devices as it is. But he also says something a bit more intelligent when it comes to understanding how gamers might feel about an always online console.

In reference to a question concerning the botched release of SimCity, Mallat replied, "The answer lies in the question – as soon as players don't have to worry, they can only take into account the benefits that those services bring." And he is right. As soon as internet connection becomes ubiquitous and more reliable, we may have less to worry about and start to see some upsides to having an always on console.

What do you think? Could an always on console be a good thing if all the kinks were sorted out first? Let us know down in the comments.
