Shaun White McTwists Into Sony Studios for PlayStation HEROES
Snoop Dogg isn't the first person I would think of when collecting a bunch of celebrities to apprehend baddies, but apparently he is Sony's first pick.
Sony is rolling out the PlayStation HEROES event for PlayStation 4, which will give players a chance to challenge celebrities in video games for charity. Detailed on the PlayStation Blog, the first round will start out with Stephen Curry, Snoop Dogg, Shaun White and Yasiel Puig. However, these celebrities won't be the only ones to participate in PlayStation HEROES. Instead, Sony plans on making this a monthly event.
"Here’s how it works: PS4 owners will purchase and download digital themes and other items via an official PlayStation HEROES app, with each dollar spent providing you with a sweepstakes entry to win one of the celebrity gaming sessions. Ninety percent of the purchase price of those items will help aid some amazing charitable organizations including Make-A-Wish, The USO and The V Foundation for Cancer Research. To celebrate PlayStation HEROES and kick start our support for these incredible causes, we’re donating $100,000 to each charity," John Koller, VP of Platforms Marketing for Sony Computer Entertainment America explained in his post.
The very first event's winner will get to play against snowboarding legend Shaun White in Bungie's Destiny sometime mid-March. While the app doesn't come out until later this month, you can pre-order it today in order to get early access to purchasing the themes, which will serve as entries. The themes value at $1, $5, $10 or $15 a piece and, as explained above, each dollar spent will count as an entry. However, the best deal is the $20 bundle that will include all four themes and get the purchaser a whopping 31 entries. These funds raised will go straight to Make-A-Wish, a foundation dedicated to making terminally ill cancer patients' final dreams come true.
This is such a good cause and such an awesome opportunity that there's no reason not to pre-order the app today if you own a PlayStation 4.
