Nintendo Partners With Mobile Giant DeNA to Make Smartphone Games
After the world has been screaming at Nintendo for years to release its games on the mobile format, the company has finally listened and is partnering with DeNA to do just that.
Nintendo has announced it is partnering with DeNA to form a business and capital alliance. The two companies will be coming together to make a series of entirely new games for mobile devices that will focus around Nintendo's intellectual properties, including some of its most famous characters. The only bad thing about this alliance is that there will not be any porting of its old games — all the games that will be popping up on mobile devices will be brand new. If you're hoping to see some old classics on your smartphone, you will unfortunately have to keep hoping (and emulate them like everyone else).
You can check out Nintendo's official statement below:
In order to create completely new game experiences for smart devices, all Nintendo IP will be eligible for development and exploration by the alliance. As these consumers enjoy the unique kind of gameplay found only with Nintendo, they will have the opportunity to explore even more premium experiences on Nintendo’s dedicated video game platforms. Information on upcoming games and availability will be forthcoming.
There will also apparently be, "an online membership service" that will be available from smart devices, PC and Nintendo systems. Nintendo intends to launch this program this Fall and it "will be built on DeNA's extensive experience and capabilities in online membership services." For those who don't know, DeNA is a global Internet company that has one of the biggest mobile and online service studios in Asia.
For now, we will have to try and be patient as we wait for more information to come out about the partnership and what it will produce.
