Mortal Kombat X Krowns Its First eSports Champion
The first-ever professional Mortal Kombat X tournament was held over the weekend, giving those excited for the upcoming game a glimpse of just how insane the competitive scene will be once the game is unleashed into the wild.
The tournament, called the "Fatal 8," included eight top players from the professional Mortal Kombat and Injustice scenes, including two-time reigning and defending EVO Mortal Kombat champion Carl “RZR|PerfectLegend” White, Malik “MIT” Terry, and the eventual winner of the tournament, Dominique “cR|Sonic Fox” McLean. We'll post the full video of the final match below (courtesy of Destructoid), so you can see just how good you're going to have to be in order to challenge this top-tier talent.
While we expected to see only returning characters like Scorpion and Quan Chi in this tournament, we were blown away (yes, pun intended), by winner Sonic Fox's handing of the new cowboy ninja Erron Black, especially with the limited amount of time Sonic Fox had to learn the character before the tournament. We're not sure if his victory came from his ability to learn Erron Black or his opponents not knowing how to defend, but either way we're impressed. Imagine how deadly this guy can be in the hands of a player who has hours of practice under his belt. All we know now is that we can't wait to see what EVO has in store for MKX.
Mortal Kombat X launches April 14 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, with Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions slated to launch sometime in the summer.
