Given the current capabilities of Xbox Live, a high-ranking executive at Microsoft's game production wing has high expectations for a modern remake of Halo 2.

IGN recently spoke to Phil Spencer, Vice President at Microsoft Game Studios, about what would be a focus if Halo 2 Anniversary became an official project for Xbox One. At last week's Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, Spencer said, "I think you just have to nail [multiplayer] in just such a fundamentally core way. Frankly probably better than we did with Halo 1 Anniversary... If there were something called Halo 2 Anniversary, I think the multiplayer would have to be fantastic."

Since 2014 marks the 10-year anniversary of Halo 2's release and Halo 2 Anniversary's near-confirmation by Steve Downes, the voice actor behind Master Chief, the likelihood of Halo 2 Anniversary seems quite high. Factor in how much Microsoft would like a Halo title released in 2014 in order to help close the sales gap between the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles, it would seem that now would be the perfect time for Master Chief to get back on the saddle.
