A new third-person shooter made its debut during the Nintendo Direct presentation today. It's name is IronFall Invasion, and at first glance it looks like the type of shooter we'd expect to see coming to a major console, not Nintendo's new  handheld.

IronFall Invasion sports a full single-player campaigns as well as multiplayer modes for up to six players to duke it out in third-person shooting action, either in teams of three or in a six-man free-for-all. We only saw a brief, 30-second demo of the game in action, but we noticed plenty of different gun types, armor types and arenas to fight in. A robust third-person shooter sounds strange for the Nintendo 3DS, but this one could be the game that changes our minds.

We wonder if this game would have been possible without the New 3DS XL's C-stick functionality. Not every 3DS owner has the Circle Pad Pro at his or her disposal, so a good amount of players wouldn't properly be able to command the game the way we assume it should be controlled. If that little feature means more developers will try and expand the 3DS's library like IronFall does, we're all for it.

IronFall Invasion will launch on Nintendo 3DS and the New 3DS in February.
