After effortlessly killing thousands of Covenant and Forerunner soldiers throughout the years, Master Chief has supposedly died according to this Halo 5 commercial.

The newest ad for Halo 5: Guardians claims Master Chief has been killed, which most likely means that it'll look like he died in the game and survived somehow. Here's what the news report from the commercial said:

We have just received confirmation from Meridian. That on October 27th, 2560, Spartan 117, the man most commonly known as the Master Chief, died in the line of duty. Out of respect to those who may have lost loved ones in the event, we are holding back the complete account. The Master Chief would never have agreed to special treatment, to be elevated above anyone else, but we must acknowledge the loss we have all, our entire species, suffered today. And we must fight, together, as he fought. We must end this, not be ended by it.

There was a part of me that was hoping that Master Chief would really die somehow in Halo 5 and pass the torch to Agent Locke, but this commercial just kind of killed that idea. I know there are too many hardheaded gamers out there who would say "it's not Halo without Master Chief," about Halo 6 if he really died, and I'm not sure if Xbox and 343 would seriously take that gamble.

If they were really going to kill John-117, they wouldn't have announced it in a commercial before the game is even out. The previous ads for the game revealed a standoff between Locke and Chief, but I think it's going to end up with them fighting and then teaming together to take on the Forerunner forces or the Flood at the end (or the Forerunners infected by the Flood).

Halo 5: Guardians will launch on Oct. 27 exclusively for Xbox One.
