The Warrior, Wizard, Valkyrie and Elf return now that the co-op classic, Gauntlet, is re-imagined for the PlayStation 4.

Warner Bros. Interactive and Arrowhead Game Studios have announced that the revamped version of Gauntlet will be heading to the PlayStation 4 next month. Gauntlet: Slayer Edition brings back one of the first multiplayer arcade games ever made and optimizes it for the living room. You'll get to play one of four fantasy-based characters — the Elf, Valkyrie, Wizard or Warrior — each sporting their own strengths, weaknesses and play styles. It's best to team up with other adventures for you and your buddies to compensate for one other's weaknesses against the hordes of monsters you'll face dungeon crawling. You'll get to visit an unexplored realm, score all kinds of loot, use new abilities, face a variety of monsters and utilize new features that weren't featured in last year's PC release.

For those who don't know, the original Gauntlet game was released back in 1985 and is praised as being one of the first multiplayer dungeon crawlers. While it may not have been the first top-down dungeon crawler, it certainly paved the way for games like Diablo and even the first Legend of Zelda title. We have plenty of fond memories crowding around Gauntlet cabinets when we were young, and we hope this version of the game helps bring those feelings back.

Gauntlet: Slayer Edition will launch on the PlayStation Store starting on Aug. 11 for $19.99. Pre-ordering the game will score you some in-game item codes for Mordok's Screaming Hammer and Reaper's Visage Helm.
