There are few portmanteaus cooler than Darksiders 2's "Deathinitive Edition," and we can't wait to see Death in all of his glory on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

To tide us over, Nordic Games has provided a look at the newer version of the game by way of some comparison screens. Rather than "then" and "now" screenshots, they've given us some "then" and "soon" screens instead, just to give fans a glimpse at how the graphics will be given a boost. John Pearl, Design Director at Gunfire Games, the crew made up of former Vigil Games members, said:

"When we thought about what we wanted to do for the “Deathinitive” edition of Darksiders II, obviously we wanted to run in native 1080p and increase the resolution of the textures. Additionally, we decided to rewrite the renderer to be physically based like a lot of other current generation game engines. What this means visually is metal, leather, stone and skin look and respond to light as you would expect them to in the real world. This new rendering method meant we revisited every texture and surface in the game, reworking and re-authoring them for the new renderer. To take full advantage of these texture changes, we’ve also gone back and relit the entire game."

You can expect the Deathinitive Edition (we can't get enough of saying it), to include all of the downloadable content, built into the game. That means you'll get the Maker Armor Set, the Abyssal Forge, the Demon Lord Belial, Death Rides, Angel of Death, Deadly Despair, Shadow of Death, Mortis Pack, Rusanov's Axe, Van Der Schmash Hammer, Fletcher's Crow Hammer, Mace Maximus and Argul's Tomb downloads from the gate. You'll also be treated to better visuals with augmented lighting and shadows, as well as a more balanced game with better loot distribution.

We've got no official word on a launch date, but Death will be riding into town again on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One Winter 2015.
