Firaxis Games and 2K are taking the alien war two decades into the future in this announcement trailer for XCOM 2.

Firaxis' interstellar, turn-based strategy game, XCOM, returns with an official sequel. XCOM 2 will be a continuation of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, which is a reboot of the original game that was widely embraced by fans. While we're certainly expecting more gameplay footage at E3 2015 in just a few weeks, its great to get one of the big reveals out of the way to get us hyped as to what else can be unveiled this month. XCOM 2 is looking good, and its up to you to restart the rebellion against the alien empire and free mankind, wait what?

That's right — the aliens won the events of XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Set in the near future, XCOM: Enemy Unknown had you in charge of the multinational paramilitary group, XCOM, which was tasked with defending Earth from an alien invasion. XCOM, the Extraterrestrial Combat Unit, specialized in taking out any UFOs, Martians or any other otherworldly visitors. The space invaders (pun intended) declared supremacy over the human alliance 20 years ago. Now, it's up to you to re-kindle the war and try to liberate mankind from its extraterrestrial rulers. Given Firaxis Games' successes with Civilization: Beyond Earth, we can't wait to see what their team adds to the already excellent Enemy Unknown format going into XCOM 2.

While no kinds of console releases were announced, XCOM 2 will be hitting PC this November.
