The free to play title Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes is going offline on March 29th, as Mythic Entertainment is shutting down the project for not meeting its financial goals.

Players will not be refunded on their Gem purchases or their remaining Gems. Gamers who played the game between January 1st and February 27th or still have a balance of Gems will receive a promotional code for the fantasy MMORPG Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning.

Wrath of Heroes producer James Casey shared his thoughts on the game's site, titling his post, "A Heartbroken Farewell." "As a producer for this game from the start, I am proud of the hard work and effort that made the game possible and I feel sad that it is not able to carry on," wrote Casey. "I think we created something special and I would not trade the time creating it or playing it (on all those Friday Fight Fests and anonymously almost every day) for anything."

Casey also described his battle arena game, which has remained in open beta since its 2011 debut, as a "grand experiment" which enabled he and his team to learn more about the free to play market.
