Naughty Dog announced that Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is getting a single-player DLC expansion, which is a first for the action series.

GameSpot reports that Naughty Dog representatives have explained why Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is getting a single-player expansion. While Naughty Dog is hitting the brakes on releasing any details about the DLC expansion, they did reveal why they're planning on releasing this content in the first place. Naughty Dog developer and community strategist Arne Meyer explained that the excellent and widely positive reception fans had with The Last of Us' single-player DLC expansion, Left Behind, is why they're planning to do something similar for Nathan Drake's next adventure.

"It worked really well for us for The Last of Us," Meyer said. "We thought we could put together a really great piece of content as well [for Uncharted 4]."

"I think we rose to the challenge for The Last of Us, so we decided we're going to take another shot at it [for Uncharted 4]," he added, also mentioning that his team has been tossing around the idea of Uncharted single-player DLC for quite some time.

The Last of Us and its Left Behind DLC were both much more serious than the sarcasm and action-filled Uncharted trilogy, so it's going to be hard to make a comparison between Left Behind and whatever DLC expansion Uncharted 4 will get. Since The Last of Us and Uncharted are two very different games in terms of themes, writing and gameplay, I'm not sure how Naughty Dog will make a piece of Uncharted 4 DLC that could rival how amazing Left Behind was, but I can't wait to see them try.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End has been delayed to a March 2016 launch for the PlayStation 4. Luckily, Naughty Dog is launching Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection on PlayStation 4 starting Oct. 8, which will package together the original trilogy in an HD remaster similar to what they did with The Last of Us.
