Mass Effect 3

BioWare

PC, PS3 Xbox 360, Wii U
The third and final chapter in Commander Shepard's tale was met with a lot of high praise but also a lot of criticism. Despite what you thought of the game's controversial ending(s), Mass Effect 3 was still a very solid game that offered a lot of emotionally engaging moments and excellent third-person shooter mechanics. Though it may be Shepard's final game, it certainly won't be the last Mass Effect we'll see.

The Pinball Arcade

What is there to say about The Pinball Arcade that we haven't said a hundred times over? Bringing to life the pins that we grew up on is every retro gamer's wet pinball dream. We LOVE the fact that we can revisit classics like Monster Bash, Funhouse and The Twilight Zone. Spot on recreations and physics, leaderboards and new pins every month? Dishonored

Arkane Studios

PC, PS3, Xbox 360
Dishonored put you in the silent shoes of Corvo Attano, a disgraced former bodyguard who was blamed for the death of the Empress. Imbued with supernatural powers, you could teleport, summon rats, and even possess people to accomplish the goal of clearing your good name and finding the people responsible for tarnishing it. The most refreshing part of Dishonored was that you could complete the entire game without spilling one drop of blood, making it one of the most satisfying experiences on our list.

Assassin's Creed 3

Ubisoft Montreal

PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U
Assassin's Creed 3 brought us across the pond and to an open-world playground based on colonial America. We could run through trees as easily as run on rooftops and the combat was refined so that everything felt fresh and responsive. But the absolute best part of the game was the parallel story that had us in both Connor and Desmond's shoes. Even if the main story wasn't your thing, there was a whole world in which you could explore, hunt, engage in naval battles, or even build up a town. And now that the Tyranny of King Washington downloadable content is on the way, you'll have even more to do!

Walking Dead - The Game

Telltale Games

iOS, PC, Mac, PS3, Xbox 360
With its brilliant storytelling, highly-anticipated episodic releases, and excellent voice-acting, Walking Dead - The Game makes it to the very top of our list. The journey was long, but it was definitely one worth taking. Trying to keep Lee Everett, Clementine, and the rest of survivors alive in the zombie apocalypse proved to be an enjoyable, if not wholly bittersweet, experience for many gamers across many different platforms. It's a best game contender in a lot of books and is the ultimate winner in our Top 25 Games of 2012 list.
