The latest developer diary from CD Projekt Red shines a spotlight on the dangerous creatures you'll face in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

CD Projekt Red's senior gameplay designer Damien Monnier, lead animator Jamie Bury and character artist Bill Daly reveal the incredible details gone into creating the Northern Realms' wildlife you'll face in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. This video reveals some of the enemies you'll be fighting and the variety of ways in which Geralt of Rivia can murder them. If you're fighting airborne Harpies, who constantly stay out of your melee attack range, you can hit them with your crossbow or a wind spell to knock them to the ground so you can deliver the final blow. Drowners, Swamp Thing-like humanoids who pull bystanders to the bottom of bogs, are susceptible to fire. You can make silver nitrate bombs for when you're hunting werewolves, or you can just use a silver sword. Either way, Geralt has plenty of options for fighting out in the wilderness.

We're digging the open-endedness of The Witcher 3, and this video introduced some bizarre monsters that we're sure we'll be fighting later this month. In particular, we can't wait to face the evil mermen at sea that could use a good crossbow bolt to the face. It'll be interesting to see how Geralt fights while riding a sailboat, as there are some massive aquatic enemies out there.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will finally debut for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 19.
