Telltale Games has announced a new, Michonne-centered mini-series for The Walking Dead, which suggests Season Three might not hit until 2016.

As the world is awaiting Xbox's E3 2015 press conference, Telltale Games has come out of nowhere with the announcement of a new spin-off mini-series based on The Walking Dead comic series. The Walking Dead: Michonne mini-series will focus on our favorite katana-wielding badass of the same name. Taking place between issues #126 and #139 of the comic series, we'll learn what pulled Michonne away from Rick, Ezekiel and the rest of the gang, and what was able to bring her back to the land of the living.

"In many ways, Michonne herself is a reflection of the world of The Walking Dead. She is brutal and cold on the outside, but deep beneath what is broken, she remains hopeful, trying to claw her way out of the darkness that surrounds her," said Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead. "In our effort to bring the world of the comic and the world of the Telltale series closer together, there is no greater character than Michonne to help bridge that gap."

This adventure game mini-series will begin this fall, which suggests that the highly anticipated third season will be launching sometime after it. Since Telltale usually puts about a month or two between its episodes, this is enough undead content to safely push Clementine's next story until 2016. As you would expect, we'll finally learn more about the iconic character's background, which the comic and TV series only hinted at.

"Michonne's complexity and range make her an ideal lead for the compelling interactive drama fans have come to expect from Telltale," said Kevin Bruner, Co-Founder and CEO of Telltale Games. "With this mini-series, players will experience Michonne's challenges first-hand, and the choices they make will shape her journey. We're incredibly honored by Robert for the opportunity to share this untold story in The Walking Dead universe."

The first episode of The Walking Dead: Michonne will launch this fall for PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, iOS and Android. Telltale mentions that you'll need at least the first episode of The Walking Dead: Season Two in order to play this mini-series, which is a bit strange. Nevertheless, stay tuned as we'll provide up-to-date coverage on this walker-filled adventure game once more information is available.
