After years of development, Team Ico's The Last Guardian has been cancelled. Say it ain't so.

[Update]: A tweet from Scott Rohde, PlayStation Software Product Development Head for Sony Worldwide Studios America, states that The Last Guardian has not been cancelled.

The original story is below.

According to a report received by IGN, "The Last Guardian is finally cancelled." The project was supposed to be released in 2011 after being announced two years prior in 2009.

Just days ago, a listing on Amazon pointed to a PlayStation 3 release for The Last Guardian for a projected release date of Dec. 31, 2014. Even though President of Sony Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida stated that it was still in development in 2012, it was hard to overlook the fact that that executive producer Yoshifusa Hayama and Team Ico's founder, Fumito Ueda, left the project.

Although the project has been nixed, we'll keep you updated once more information about The Last Guardian's cancellation has been revealed or if Sony makes an official statement about it. Perhaps we'll hear more about it during Sony's press conference at E3 2014 next week.
