Ron Gilbert has parted ways with Double Fine to "plot his next move."

Gilbert, one of the early Lucasfilm Games (precursor to LucasArts) minds behind titles like The Secret of Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion, spent the past two years with Double Fine working on The Cave. Now that it's all done and over with, the creator has decided it's time to move on to other projects.

Writing on his blog, Gilbert first thanked everyone at Double Fine for all the work they accomplished on The Cave. He also posted a massive map of the entire titular cave showcasing what the mysterious cavern looked like in one giant connected piece.

In addition to delivering the key note at PAX Australia this year, Gilbert indicated he's working with DeathSpank co-creator Clayton Kauzlaric on a new iOS game called Scurvy Scallywags in The Voyage to Discover the Ultimate Sea Shanty: A Musical Match-3 Pirate RPG. Yup, that's the full title. Gilbert promised screenshots of the upcoming game in the coming weeks.

The Lucasfilm Games reunion was fun while it lasted, and perhaps Double Fine and Gilbert will team again in the future. With "so many games to develop," you never know what will happen.
