A new, free Pokemon game could be coming to the Nintendo 3DS... in Japan.

According to Serebii, The Band of Thieves & 1000 Pokemon is a free 3DS eShop game coming to Japan in order to coincide with the release of 'Pokemon the Movie: Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction.' This full-length feature is based on the Pokemon X/Y arc of the anime series and will be the 17th Pokemon film ever made. Band of Thieves is launching on June 5 in Japan (a month prior to the film's release) and will be utilizing the Nintendo 3DS' StreetPass functionality as its primary gameplay mechanic.

The game's title thieves are Marilyn and Riot, who are the likely antagonists in the Diancie film. Band of Thieves will use the 3DS StreetPass to collect Pokemon (based on picking up the signals of nearby Nintendo 3DS users also using StreetPass) in order to fight off Marilyn and Riot. Battles will be determined by the numbers of Pokemon you have, which means that the more 3DS handhelds you encounter, the better. There is a form of special Pikachu being offered as a bonus with The Band of Thieves & 1000 Pokemon, but it is unsure in what form will it arrive. Hopefully it will be a sort of rare, shiny version of the iconic Pokemon for us to use in Pokemon X/Y.

Since 'Pokemon the Movie: Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction' has been announced for a Western release, the possibly of The Band of Thieves & 1000 Pokemon coming stateside increased tremendously. Unfortunately, Nintendo has yet to provide any official statements in regards to the game's U.S. release.
