I was confused when I first saw the title for World of Gibbets. I kept thinking to myself, “What the hell is a gibbet?” It sounds like a cute animal. Maybe it was a relative of those little gibbon monkeys you sometimes see at the zoo. Boy, was I wrong. A gibbet refers to an instrument of public execution and gibbetting was the act of stringing up bodies for public display in order to keep the community in line. What a lovely topic for a little iOS game.

It's been a great year for FDG Entertainment. Their previous title, Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas, broke the top five our list of the 100 Best iOS Games Ever Made. So when we found out that FDG was doing a sequel to their well-received Across Age, we had our expectations set high. Sure, time travel has become a trope of role-playing game genre, spanning from the likes of Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy to even Fire Emblem. And speaking of such classics, Across Age 2 does its very best to remind us of the RPG genre's 16-bit glory days. So lets see if Across Age 2 brings something new to the top-down table.
