Despite it taking years for the Nintendo 3DS XL to finally get its Circle Pad Pro, Super Smash Bros. will not support the 3DS' second analog stick attachment.

According to IGN, Nintendo of Japan's 3DS support page confirmed that Super Smash Bros. will not support the handheld's Circle Pad Pro accessory. The Circle Pad Pro is also known as the Slider Pad or Slide Pad expansion in Japan and other areas of the world. This is a shame considering that 3DS XL owners have waited years for the attachment's western release. At the same time, the use of a second analog stick in the Super Smash Bros. series has always been rather useless, letting you do Smash Attacks that you could normally do with the game's regular controls.

Super Smash Bros. will use the added C-Stick on the New Nintendo 3DS and New 3DS XL, which is a bit of a contradiction. Both the New 3DS and the New 3DS XL will have an extra set of shoulder buttons that you can likely assign controls to in Smash Bros. Just as long as Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate can use the Circle Pad Pro, we'll be fine.

Super Smash Bros. will launch on Nintendo 3DS on Oct. 3 and its Wii U counterpart will hit stores sometime this holiday season.
