Super Smash Bros 3DS Is Selling Like Hotcakes
The 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. has only been out for four full days in the West. but that's all it took to make a big impression with players across the country.
The has sold 2.8 million copies worldwide to date, a number which does include sales in Japan where the game launched in Sept.13, but is still impressive on its own. It was reported that Smash 3DS moved 1.37 million copies in Japan before launching in other regions of the world, which means that sales for the game have doubled in the four days since launching in America.
These sales figures lay the foundation for what could be a big holiday season, with the (long-overdue) announcement of Nov. 21 as the release date for both Super Smash Bros. Wii U and the new Amiibo line of figurines, and Dec. 5 as the launch date for Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. Both games come after the glut of holiday releases that wraps up Nov. 18, and both launch virtually uncontested; while Smash does have some day one competition, it's another Nintendo title in Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, and most Nintendo diehards will be picking both games up anyway.
In short, this could be the holiday season where Nintendo makes a giant leap up the sales charts. Get your popcorn ready, this is going to be a fun ride.
