When Blizzard turned away from Starcraft: Ghost and started working on World of Warcraft and Starcraft 2, we thought the shooter project was essentially canned. Turned out, we were wrong.

Speaking with OPM, Blizzard’s Matthew Berger said something somewhat encouraging about the Starcraft: Ghost Project. “It’s on hold,” he said. “It has never been canceled.”

Berger didn’t exactly jump at the chance to confirm Starcraft: Ghost’s ongoing development, but this does at least hold some hope for the title. Technology has greatly advanced since Starcraft: Ghost was first announced, and heading into the shooter genre would be an interesting departure from the RPG and RTS focused blizzard.

When asked if Starcraft: Ghost would still get released, Berger responded “maybe.” Maybe we will see Starcraft: Ghost finally make an appearance on next-generation consoles. Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm just makes us want to play as Kerrigan that much more.
