Star Trek: The Video Game's launch trailer has gone live, hopefully getting fans pumped up and ready to play through the prequel to Star Trek: Into Darkness.

The launch trailer might as well be a theatrical trailer, given that the stars of the film reprise their roles and the game can be considered Star Trek 1.5 in J.J. Abrams' saga.

Snippets of the story are presented, informing fans that they'll be heading to a space station on which some surviving Vulcan have been messing around with some McGuffin called the Helios Machine. This device is meant to help them create New Vulcan, but it tears open a rip in space instead, letting the lizard-like Gorn come through to wreak havoc.

Watch the trailer below and let us know if it gets you hyped to play the game and then watch the movie. Star Trek: The Video Game is now available on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, so run out and grab it, Trekkies!
