Cryptic Studios is paying tribute to the late, great Leonard Nimoy by erecting an in-game memorial for Spock in Star Trek Online.

Polygon reports that a memorial to Leonard Nimoy is being added to Star Trek Online during its regularly scheduled maintenance on March 5. Nimoy played the iconic role of Spock for nearly 50 years throughout multiple Star Trek films and television series. Throughout the past weekend, thousands of Star Trek Online players have journeyed to Spock's home planet of Vulcan to pay their respects (pictured above).

Star Trek Online Executive Producer Steve Ricossa said the following about Nimoy's passing and the upcoming Spock memorial:

I want to once again express my heartfelt condolences to the friends, family, and fans of Leonard Nimoy. Everyone at Cryptic Studios was saddened to hear of his passing and we want to make sure we never forget the cultural impact of the man or the character he played. To that end, the Star Trek Online team will implement a standing in-game memorial to Spock and Leonard Nimoy this Thursday March 5th with our regular weekly maintenance.

In this way, we hope to keep his memory as alive in our game as he is in all of our hearts.

Here is Cryptic Studios' behind the scenes video of Leonard Nimoy providing narrations for Star Trek Online, which recently celebrated its five year anniversary. Nimoy's death is a huge blow to fans of Star Trek and science fiction aficionados in general. Despite Star Trek being a fictional work, Nimoy helped the masses navigate the sea of stars in the sky. And there's a new star among them, the brightest of additions, out there beyond the final frontier.
