Ahead of Tokyo Game Show 2013, Sony hosted a press conference where it announced a wealth of new games and hardware. Chief among those reveals was a brand new PS Vita, which is both thinner and lighter, and comes in a variety of new colors.

The new Vita will only be available with Wi-Fi, though the 3G/Wi-Fi version of the original will still be available. Due out in Japan in October for ¥19,929 (appx. $200), the Vita 2000 will be 20 percent slimmer, 15 percent lighter and features an LCD display instead of the original OLED screen.

With a thinner handheld, you'd expect the battery life to suffer, but Sony claims it will actually be better. Instead of 3-5 hours of gaming, the new Vita will supposedly allow for 4-6 hours. It's not an insane increase, but that Sony was able to improve it at all is welcome. There will also be 1GB of storage built in, though you will be able to continue using the microSD cards to expand.

Best of all, there will be more color choices available for the new Vita. Instead of only having the classic black, you'll be able to choose from pink, white, yellow, light blue, khaki and lime green. There's still no word on when the new Vita's will be available in other markets, but with the PlayStation 4 having so much connectivity with the Vita, it's only a matter of time until Sony makes this newer model available to everyone.
