In an effort to get our blood pumping and our hype train a-rolling, Yacht Club Games has released a new trailer for Shovel Knight. It's pretty damn awesome.

The gameplay footage show in the trailer above is rife with Metroidvania-style action, dripping with nostalgia. It seriously looks like a game that came out in the early-to-mid '90s, which is something we can definitely get behind. The best part is all of this footage is from the alpha build of the game. Color us impressed, and do it in 8-bit.

As you may or may not know, Shovel Knight was successfully funded on Kickstarter back in April 2013, catapulting past its original funding goal of $75,000 and raising $311,502. Now it's finally headed our way on March 31 for the 3DS, Wii U, PC, Linux and Mac.

Watch the trailer above to see Shovel Knight in action against all manner of baddies and environmental hazards. This is old-school gaming at its best!
