Nintendo's favorite Eskimos got dropped from the Super Smash Bros. roster due to the 3DS' capabilities.

According to Eurogamer, Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai has revealed that the Ice Climbers were removed from the game's roster due to the Nintendo 3DS being unable to handle having both characters on screen at the same time. He admitted that Nintendo tossed around the idea of having only one Ice Climbers as a single fighter with only one character on screen at a time, but that would have required a major retooling of the character's moves.

The early version of Super Smash Bros. on the Wii U had the Ice Climbers, but sharing the same character list with the Nintendo 3DS version of the game meant that they had to be removed completely. Sakurai added that the lack of new Ice Climbers titles helped make the decision to cut them from the roster much simpler.

Super Smash Bros. launches on Oct. 3 for Nintendo 3DS and this holiday season for Wii U. Here's to hoping this supposed launch date is legit.

Looks like the Ice Climbers can drop their karate class.
