The nuttiness of the 3rd Street Saints' saga continues in Saints Row 4, which will be released soon. But what kind of story should we expect from this ridiculous new game?

A new developer diary has been posted that features Senior Producer Jim Boone, Creative Director Steve Jaros, Lighting Lead Chris Clafin, and actors Terry Crews and Troy Baker taking about the story in Saints Row 4 and how epic and strange it's gotten.

It turns out that in the beginning of the game, the player's character is involved in some thrilling heroics that win them the hearts and minds of the American people. So, as logic would dictate, their popularity gets them thrust into the position of leader of the free world.

As luck would have it, a bunch of aliens come knocking on our door, hell-bent on world domination. To that end, they capture the Boss and homies and stick them in a Matrix-like virtual world in order to subdue them. Unfortunately for them, the Boss is somewhat of a psychopath and can act against the program.

This virtual reality world is important because it frees up the development team's options with regard to what they can do, so the result is hilarious weapons, ridiculous action and more over-the-top hijinks than you can shake a phallus-shaped weapon at.

Watch the video above and let us know your thoughts on Saints Row 4. The game will be released on Aug. 20 on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
