Rovio is mad with power! Our friends over at ScreenCrush have tipped us off that Rovio is getting into the motion picture business. Look out, Pixar!

According to a press release from today, Rovio will team up with the producers of 'Despicable Me' to plan an animated movie that will be released in 2016. This news arrives on the three year anniversary of the game's release way, way back in the stone ages of 2009. Since then, Angry Birds has been downloaded over 1 billion times across multiple platforms and versions. That's a lot.

About a month ago, we reported on the massive success that the Finnish studio has had with their Angry Birds franchise. In that piece, we wondered how far the company would go with their brand, given that they have yet to strike out with an Angry Birds-themed property.

It appears that partnering with a famous movie franchise like Star Wars has inspired those crazy Fins to take the next big step. As of right now, there's no writer or director attached to the project. But there's plenty of time to figure all that out.

In addition to this movie news today, Rovio also just released a birthday update for Angry Birds with 30 new levels, a "birdday" cake, and the Pink Bird from Angry Birds Seasons. We think it's safe to say that these guys really know what they are doing.
