Overkill Software intends to bring the mask-wearing, gun-toting heists of Payday 2 over to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but at a heavy cost.

Overkill Software has announced that Payday 2: Crimewave Edition will be coming to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 this summer. This version of the game will include all of those DLC packs that you were wondering if you should buy on the last-gen versions, such as Old Hoxton, Clover, Dragan, the Big Bank Heist, the Diamond Heist and more. There will also be the usual enhancements that come with jumping to current-gen hardware, such as a higher frame rate, improved resolution (to 1080p) and better textures.

However, it isn't all good news, or at least it isn't for those who are playing Payday 2 on the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3. Overkill admits that it will no longer be continuing support for the last-gen versions of Payday 2 (its servers will remain open, just don't expect updates). Some of this has to do with the capabilities of the older consoles, what Overkill wants to add and a desire to move on to current-gen as the new standard. Even more unfortunate, there will be no way to transfer save files over to PS4 or Xbox One and there will be no support for split-screen co-op or cross-platform play.

However, those who are excited about this upcoming release can also look forward to a pre-order bonus, the 'Hard Time Loot Bag.' This will include a bunch of new and unique digital items, which includes the following:

  • Red dot weapon sight modification available for use on all rifle weapons
  • Exclusive Skull mask
  • PlayStation 4 or Xbox One exclusive mask
  • Unique mask pattern titled "I LOVE OVERKILL"
  • Unique color pattern, only available with this unlock
  • Bundle of in-game cash

You can check out Payday 2: Crimewave Edition on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One when it comes out this June.
