Path of Exile is a free-to-play action role-playing game from Grinding Gear Games that has garnered about two million players since going into open beta in January. Chris Wilson, co-founder of Grinding Gear Games, talks about his plans for the game's longevity.

Path of Exile is a game in the vein of dungeon crawlers like Diablo 3 or Torchlight 2, and as such, needs more than just tasty loot tables to keep players hacking and slashing. In an interview with JoyStiq at GDC, Wilson discussed what will happen to the game once it comes out of open beta.

He said that the game will be updated will version 1.0, which will be the "reviewable" iteration of the game and will also add a full story to Act 3, packing in a bunch of new monsters and items.

Grinding Gear Games also intends "to do expansions over the next five to ten years," according to Wilson. That's quite a plan for the future, but we'll see what comes to fruition when the game goes into version 1.0 soon!
