October’s Games With Gold Include The Walking Dead and Valiant Hearts

To hype the return of Rick Grimes and his band of zombie apocalypse survivors, October's Games With Gold will include The Walking Dead, Valiant Hearts and more.

Xbox's Major Nelson has revealed the four games (technically three) being given out for free throughout October for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. As before, there'll be two Xbox One and two Xbox 360 titles to download for free. Throughout the entire month, Xbox One users with an Xbox Live Gold subscription can download Valiant Hearts: The Great War. This puzzle-adventure game is all about love, survival, sacrifice and friendship. For the first half of the month (until Oct. 15), Gold members (no Austin Powers jokes please) will be able to download Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. This is the first chapter of Metal Gear Solid V, acting as kind of a demo/prologue setting up the events of The Phantom Pain.

For the second half of the month, the dead start rising. Just as Halloween is on the way and the newest season of AMC's The Walking Dead is peeking its decaying head around the corner, Telltale Games' first season of The Walking Dead will be free for both Xbox One and Xbox 360 Gold subscribers. This award-winning adventure game series is set in the same universe as Robert Kirkman's awesome comic series of the same name that the AMC TV show is based on, and it tells one polarizing tale of humanity in the midst of a horrific undead apocalypse. The Walking Dead will be free to download from Oct. 16 until the end of the month for Xbox 360 subscribers. Fortunately, Xbox One owners can download the first season from Oct. 16 until Nov. 15.

Just a heads up: you only have until Sept. 30 to download The Deer God for Xbox One and Crysis 3 for Xbox 360. Subscribers also have until Oct. 15 to download Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, as these titles were all a part of last month's Games With Gold offerings.
