Nintendo has stated that it has started developing its next major Mario title, but would not clarify as to whether it would be coming out for Wii U or Nintendo 3DS.

In an interview with the team that worked on Super Mario 3D World, Edge reports that Nintendo producer, Yoshiaki Koizumi has stated that work has already begun on the next game of the Mario franchise. As to whether it would be a Wii U or 3DS title, Koizumi replied, "That's still a secret! I can tell you, though, that we've already started approaching our next challenge."

Koizumi has also stated: “There’s still a lot more room for discovery and invention, and we’ll continue to propose new and exciting game mechanics going into the future.”

The co-director of Super Mario 3D World, Kenta Motokura told Edge that if their next Mario title was on the Wii U, that the game “might need to make even more use of the GamePad.”

Nevertheless, we hope that the followup to Super Mario 3D World will expand upon World's intuitive gameplay and maintains the level of quality we have come to expect from our favorite, Koopa-squashing plumber.
