With Fox's 'Gotham' set to put a whole new spin on the Batman saga, it seems Resident Evil might be getting similar treatment in the very near future.

Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Mance Media is in talks to produce a series called 'Arklay', which is the area northwest of Raccoon City and the home of the mansion and laboratories from the first Resident Evil game. The script is penned by new writer Shawn Christopher Lebert and the show is said to revolve around mysterious murders in Raccoon City.

The official pitch as reported by Bloody Disgusting reads: "When Detective James Reinhardt is thrust into a series of bizarre homicides, he unravels the city is hiding a dark conspiracy. Learning a fatal virus is connected to it all, Reinhardt discovers it’s already coursing through him. With time no longer on his side, he must solve the conspiracy to save his own life."

The Resident Evil series needs some good (ki)juju after the disastrous Resident Evil 6, so making a television show that adds backstory to the whole saga might not be a bad idea. We know that this is in basic preliminary stages, but if this could get off the ground and turn into a big time series, we'd totally be on board. We'll report more as we learn it, but for now let's hope Arklay becomes a real thing.
