Nexon has announced plans to develop a new online game based on Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.

Adapted from Masamune Shirow's manga Ghost in the Shell, Kodansha's Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and SAC 2nd Gig delve deeper in the world of Major Motoko Kusanagi, and have enjoyed success as both manga and anime. Nexon is known for its free-to-play online games such as Maple Story and Counter Strike Online, and appear to be excited at the prospects of working on a new Ghost in the Shell game.

"We are very pleased to have given the opportunity to work with Kodansha in the development of games for the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex franchise, which is highly popular worldwide," said Nexon CEO Seungwoo Choi in a statement. "We will add Nexon’s wide-ranging experiences and know-how to the original creation in order to develop high quality games to meet the expectations of all its fans."

There are no additional details about the game or its release date at the moment. The last time Ghost in the Shell was adapted into a game was on the PlayStation 2. Nexon is expected to reveal more information in 2013.
