Ed Boon and the rest of Shao Kahn's minions at NetherRealm Studios have released a dev diary focusing on the various game modes you'll be able to decapitate your way through in Mortal Kombat X.

For once, we have a new video from NetherRealm Studios that simply isn't another character reveal. Instead, we get a closer look at the various types of gameplay. We get to see the Faction War game mode, which breaks down the roster according to who is part of what group. The factions include the Black Dragon (Kano's group), Lin Kuei (Sub-Zero's), White Lotus (Raiden's), Brotherhood of Shadow (Quan Chi's) and Special Forces (Cassie Cage's). This lets us predict who else could join based on these five major representative groups. You'll be able to select a Faction in online modes, team up with other players in them and throw down in some big, tournament-like brawls with Faction-specific Fatalities.

Speaking of Special Forces, it looks like Jax is returning according to Ed Boon's reaction to a picture taken from the dev diary posted on his Twitter (provided below). Also seen is a mysterious character in the middle of the tower using a bow. Some people thought this character was the DC superhero Green Arrow or a relative Nightwolf, but Ed Boon had already said that it's neither. It could be a relative of Nightwolf or perhaps a more traditional style of ninja.

Watching prototype gameplay of Goro reminds us that it sucks he's going to be a pre-order bonus character when he should be part of the full roster. Be prepared to test your might when Mortal Kombat X launches on April 14 for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
