The whole cast of characters for Mortal Kombat X hasn't even been announced yet, but NetherRealm is already hinting at some special guests making an appearance as downloadable content.

Speaking with MadCatz at EVO 2014 (spotted by MP1ST), NetherRealm's Ed Boon mentioned that DLC characters would be part of the plan once Mortal Kombat X came out. Previous NetherRealm games like Mortal Kombat 9 and Injustice: Gods Among Us made use of downloadable characters and season passes. With the success of both those programs, it certainly makes sense that the same kind of promotion would follow in MKX.

Additionally, like Mortal Kombat 9, Mortal Kombat X will feature at least one guest character that didn't originate with the franchise. The last entry included Freddy Krueger as DLC, while Kratos was included in the PlayStation 3 version from the outset. While Boon didn't offer any hints as to who the guest character(s) might be, that NetherRealm is once again looking beyond the standard core should be exciting for longtime fans.

Mortal Kombat X is due out in 2015 for the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
