The creator of Super Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Star Fox, F-Zero and Pikmin had some surprising words to say about Nintendo's contemporaries.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Shigeru Miyamoto had some surprising words about the state of the video game industry as well as some heavy critique on Nintendo's competition (PlayStation and Xbox). We admit that we agree with his opinion that Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo should aim for the progression of video games as a whole instead of only aiming to outsell each other.

“When we think about video games, we always have the idea of a start and a goal, and it’s like a race between individual players: who can make it and who won’t?” Miyamoto said. “And I thought, ‘Why does it have to be a competition? Why can’t everyone just move together in the same direction, carrying things as a team? Who made these rules in the first place, anyway?’”

“What the other companies are doing makes business sense,” he says. “But it’s boring. The same games appear on every system. At Nintendo we want an environment where game creators can collaborate and think of ideas for games that could have never happened before.”

Miyamoto is still unsure about the upcoming wave of VR technology coming from headsets like the Gear VR, Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus. He claimed that it doesn't look beautiful and that other people in room wouldn't be able to enjoy watching you play, which is a big factor in its success. Miyamoto expressed that his company has "nothing to announce yet" about any kind of Nintendo VR. He recently experimented in animated film making by writing and directing 'Pikmin Short Movies,' which you can now download from the Nintendo eShop.
