According to Johan Bernhardsson, a game developer at Mojang, more than five million copies of Minecraft: Pocket edition have been downloaded off the digital shelves.

In addition to that success, the guys and gals at Mojang have also totaled 17 million sales across all platforms for the pixel-pushing phenomenon that is the Minecraft franchise. The news comes via a Tweet from Bernhardsson:

What started out strong on the PC has most definitely translated well to different devices, including consoles and mobile. A quick glance at some of crazy high stats on the Minecraft web site and you will see right away that it's not just a phenomenon.

Also, according to Bernhardsson on Twitter, a future update to Minecraft: Pocket Edition will feature online multiplayer!
